What music are you into right now??

Hey, just wondering what music you guys are into. So I'll go first... My first love is punk, stuff like Bad Religion, Against Me, Anti-Flag, Rise Against and NOFX. But I really love acoustic stuff too, one of my favourites being Julia Nunes (who's also a Youtuber, in case you didn't know)
Nerdy music wise, I'm a fan of Nerf Herder, Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot, Driftless Pony Club, Barenaked Ladies and Malukah.
So, I wanna know what music you guys are into. If you like the some of the people I've mentioned then let me know some of your favourite songs by them, or recommend some artists/bands that you like?

    Hi, @NerdyPunk, great topic!

    I jump all over the place with my musical tastes, but punk, new wave, funk and hip hop are probably the genres I gravitate toward most often. My favorite punk music tends to be older stuff I grew up with, bands like the Clash, Violent Femmes, or Joan Jett. I've gone from collecting cassette tapes to compact discs to being a fairly late adopter of mp3s, and I've had Combat Rock in every format by now. I like having a really wide variety of music, though. I play music while I'm painting, and it sets different moods and energy when you put on Al Green or Alicia Keys, They Might Be Giants or Shiny Toy Guns.

    My girlfriend is from Brasil, and I listen to a lot of music in Portuguese that I don't understand, although I still enjoy the melody or the beat. We both like a lot of classical guitar stuff, like Luiz Bonfa.

    The last song I heard on the radio in my car, that made me immediately go search for it and download it when I got home, was Same Love by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

    What music am I into right now?
    Well that is a very tough question because my musical tastes seem to change with my moods (or is it the other way round?). Currently in heavy rotation in my ear-buds: anything by Kevin Devine or Frank Turner, Queens of the Stone Age, Dax Riggs, World Inferno Friendship Society,  Brand New, Portgual. the Man, and Larry & his Flask. My tastes definitely run deeper than that though, and I can talk music for days. One of my favorite things is to go to shows, having gone to 45 last year alone. I am always on the lookout for new good music, and I like to spread the word on small bands that are awesome. So be it punk, new wave, old soul. triphop, shoegaze, post-rock, jazz, world music, classical, or old school hiphop, i can always find something to listen to. The only genres I tend to shy away from are country (though some old  country is awesome, anything 90s onward is just not for me) and the atrocity known as dubstep.

    @Farlander thanks for the comment! The Clash are another of my favourite punk bands. London Calling is probably my favourite album and my band does a cover of I Fought the Law that seems to always go down well at gigs. Joan Jett is another fave, can never beat listening to Bad Reputation when in a bad mood... or a good mood for that matter. I also love her cover of Androgynous by The Replacements. If you haven't heard it, I deffinately recommend it! :)
    @Fiendish_imp Frank Turner... How I love thee! Such a great song writer! I really love his newer album Recovery, like, I listened to it at least 4 times... in a row. Also Queens of the Stone Age aren't a band I regularly listen to, but when I do I lay back and relax. Really great grooves. I only have Songs for the Deaf, but to me that's all I need. Dave Grohl really adds to their sound! Which reminds me... Another one of my all time favourite bands is the Foo Fighters. So, so good! :)
    Also, country for me is kind of an on off relationship. Some times I just want twangy acoustic guitars. But a band that I'm always in the mood for whom I would discribe as "kind of country rock n roll" is City & Colour. I just love Dallas Green's voice... and his guitar playing. Have done since the days of Alexisonfire (his post-hardcore band)

    Oh and dubstep is not a favourite... but it can be done well when understated. The King Blues, were a great acousta-punk/rap/dub band... untill they broke up after a few albums, thus breaking my heart. :(

    @NerdyPunk Have you listened to the new City and Colour yet? It is one of my favorites so far this year. It's funny because most of my friends were into Alexisonfire and then got into City and Colour, and I went the other way. As for Frank Turner, Recovery is a very good album and it took me a few listens to really get into, but my favorite has to be Love Ire and Song, which has a lot of my favorites songs on it. I will definitely have to take a look at the King Blue, as any form of music can be done well, but sometimes what becomes popular appeals to a broader audience.

    I have listened to a couple of songs from the new City & Colour album. All really good songs.
    Love Ire and Song was one of my favourite albums... 'Till recovery came out. Sooo good. Loved it from song 1.
    Yeah, King Blues are one of my favourite bands. I love the mix of genres and the lyrical content always makes me smile. :)

    I mostly listen to a lot of Japanese artists like Masaharu Fukuyama, BUMP OF CHICKEN, GReeeeN, and several others although I still enjoy listening to English-singing indie bands like Eyeshine or I Fight Dragons. Vertical Horizon is another band I enjoy that's visiting my hometown next week, but I'm still deciding if I can afford to see them or not. ><

    They're a Canadian Electronica band that uses traditional instruments and various other doodads. They DON'T use typical techniques that most electronic artists use, like laptops, looping, programming, etc. Their live shows are an unreal amount of energy.     @Draiken Japanese bands are often really cool. I like Asian Kung-fu Generation and L'Arc-en-Ciel. Got into them via Full Metal Alchemist, which is a great show for music... and character and story... it's just awesome! :)

    @mynameismoe I will deffinitely check them out! Though, with a few exceptions, I generally like all Canadian things. :)

    @NerdyPunk I love FMA!!! One of the first series that got me into Japanese music as well as a great series. :)  I have to admit that I'm reaching the point where I don't actively discover other bands unless they're related to something I'm currently interested. For example, I never listened to ONE OK ROCK until I saw the live-action Rurouni Kenshin movie and listened to their song during the ending credits, and they're another band that I really like now. XD

    @Draiken FMA was my gateway to anime. Loved it, and I grew to love FMA:Brotherhood too. I just love those characters!
    I do that too!! Like I got into Say Anything because I saw a video of Julia Nunes doing a cover of one of their songs. Same with Driftless Pony Club, I was a fan of WheezyWaiter and he posted a music video for his band and I was sold. :)

    I've been rocking out to Anamanaguchi's new album, Endless Fantasy. Their music is like an 8-bit gamer's dreamscape. I just love the melding of modern sound with chiptunes ^__^

    @GeekHeavy Seen them live a bunch of times, and it is always a very fun show. Chiptune can be hit or miss most of the time, but these guys know what they're doing
